Pattern Recognition Mastermind with IM Mat Kolosowski
If you’ve been playing chess for a while you know the importance of pattern recognition.
It’s what alerts you to a possible tactic in a position. It’s what allows you to sacrifice your queen, knowing that the back-rank mate is forced.
It’s what enables super-GMs like Hikaru Nakamura to solve complex tactics in under a second.
About the Author:
Mat Kołosowski is an International Master from Poland. He is a multiple Polish youth championship medalist. In 2010 he took 5th place in European U-18 Championship.
During the course of his chess career, Kołosowski has won many international tournaments. He is also a popular chess coach who has experience working with students from over 20 countries.
A few of his students have even managed to go so far as to obtain their own international titles! Mat has also provided live commentary of Polish and European Rapid and Blitz Championships.
How is this course going to help me?
High-level pattern recognition will find you brilliant moves – tactical and strategic – instantly. Now popular presenter IM Mat Kolosowski has produced Pattern Recognition Mastermind – a course that saves you thousands of hours of learning patterns.
There are 2 ways to significantly improve your tactics:
Attempt 50,000 tactics until something sinks in.
Learn the major patterns and mechanisms of their solution.
Mat takes the second approach in this course.
You learn how to spot potential tactics, how to force your opponent into allowing an actual tactic, and how to execute flawlessly.
Some of what to expect:
Tactical vision. We can all spot a fork when it’s there to be played… but what about when it’s hidden 3 or 4 moves away? Mat explains how to set up deep tactics that your opponent won’t see coming.
Move order magic. Many winning tactics get missed as the player can’t quite make it work. If your intuition tells you there’s something there, you’re probably right. Learn the trick to solving these positions in chapter 2
Getting your own way. Not all combinations win material or mate the king. Sometimes you need some tactical wizardry to take control of a file or secure an outpost. Chapter 7 shows you how to master the methods top GMs use to advance their plans.
Want to make rapid gains in your tactical ability? Hack your training with Pattern Recognition Mastermind.
This course also includes:
Complete Course PGNs
Downloadable, complete game database of everything covered so that you can analyze it at your own pace and convenience.
Access to Practicum
Train the important attacking motifs with a set of specifically designed tasks and challenges. The practical part is an important element of the course.

If you want to master an opening, you must become familiar with its typical positional ideas and remember the most important theoretical lines. But this is really not enough.
Every opening has its own stock of tactical motifs. Therefore, you also have to know the typical tactical patterns that frequently recur in your opening.
What’s Included in this Explosive Mega Bundle?
Working on tactics is a sure way for any player, at any level, to improve. The 80/20 Tactics Multiplier series is for the bold and the brave. If you like turning the tables on your opponents from time to time, this is a must-have course.
The Most Common Tactical Ideas in the Sicilian Dragon:
In the first volume of this series, IM Valeri Lilov will walk you through the essential chess tactics ideas in the Sicilian Dragon, and give you a complete understanding of typical tactical patterns for both sides.
The Sicilian Dragon is a strategically and dynamically complex opening full of tactical possibilities.
Both sides have a multitude of tactical shots and ideas at their disposal thanks to the asymmetrical pawn structure, with Black’s play generally focusing on the queenside while White tends to play on the kingside.
The aim of this volume is to improve your understanding of the typical tactical themes of the Sicilian Dragon, as well as to practice them in six different quizzes featuring 100 carefully selected test positions.
The Grunfeld – GM Sam Shankland:
Sam Shankland never stops! No sooner has he been crowned US Champion – sensationally finishing ahead of Caruana, So and Nakamura – then he’s back with another incredible training course for you!
80/20 Tactics Multiplier: The Grunfeld will teach you one of Black’s most exciting openings through the lens of Grandmaster tactics!
The ultra-sharp Grunfeld was a favorite weapon of both Kasparov and Fischer, famously used by Bobby to win the Game of the Century – one of the many games covered in the course.
Sam strives for the highest quality in everything he does and this course is no different.
Study it and not only will you have a high-level understanding of the Grunfeld without having to memorize theory, you’ll also vastly improve your calculation, tactical eye, and intuition for dynamic play.
The King’s Indian Defense – GM Bryan Smith:
GM Bryan Smith’s course on the essential chess tactics in the King’s Indian Defense gives you a complete understanding of typical tactical patterns for both sides.
Even if you only play the King’s Indian as Black, it’s important to know the opportunities available to White so you can prevent them!
The KID is a complex and rewarding opening where White enjoys more space but Black has a number of surprising methods to lay siege to the enemy position, often resulting in brilliant wins.
GM Bryan Smith explains the mechanics behind some of the most powerful tactics in Grandmaster play before giving detailed commentary on some of his own games.
The result is an elevated understanding of the typical tactical and strategic themes of the King’s Indian Defense, which you can test and strengthen with the included quizzes!
The London System – IM Eric Rosen:
Even if you only play against the London System, knowledge of these resources will prove invaluable.
The London System is a flexible opening that White can use against virtually any of Black’s setups. This makes it the perfect choice for players who prefer to understand key strategic and tactical ideas instead of having to memorize an endless number of theoretical variations.
With this DVD, you’ll gain a high-level understanding of the typical themes of the London System, and you’ll be able to really cement this knowledge in your long-term memory with the included practical tests.
If you’d like to learn all the typical tactical ideas that can arise from the London System, then IM Eric Rosen has got you covered.
Typical Tactic Ideas in The Scotch Game – IM Irina Bulmaga:
In this 80/20 Tactics course, IM Irina Bulmaga equips you with expert knowledge of the key tactical and strategic ideas in the Scotch Opening – the fantastically powerful weapon Garry Kasparov turned to in his World Championship matches against Karpov and Short.
The Scotch gives you an important psychological edge against 1…e5 players who are comfortable playing the Ruy Lopez and Italian Game, taking them into uncharted territory where you call the shots.
It’s a strategically and dynamically complex opening full of tactical possibilities, making it perfect for players who want the game to be decided by skill instead of just memorizing theory.
Chess Tactics in The Sicilian Najdorf – GM Niclas Huschenbeth:
GM Niclas Huschenbeth brings to you a masterclass of chess tactics in the Sicilian Najdorf, giving you a complete
understanding of the typical tactical patterns for both sides.
The asymmetrical pawn structure gives rise to a multitude of tactical shots and ideas with Black’s play generally focusing on the queenside while White tends to play on the kingside.
By understanding how these attacks come about, which sacrifices work and how to deal with your opponent’s threats, you’ll be the one coming out on top.
Chess Tactics in The Trompowsky Attack – IM Levy Rozman:
IM Levy Rozman’s course on the essential patterns in the Trompowsky Attack gives you a complete understanding of typical tactical and strategic patterns for both sides.
The Trompowsky Attack is a strategically and dynamically complex opening full of tactical possibilities.
Both sides have a multitude of tactical shots and ideas at their disposal thanks to the asymmetrical pawn structures and imbalances that occur.
It is a perfect opening for players who prefer to understand key strategic and tactical ideas rather than memorize an endless amount of theoretical variations.
Chess Tactics in The French Defense – GM Mihail Marin
The French Defense is one of the most trusted openings in chess, popular at all levels from beginners to strong grandmasters.
It is a strategically and dynamically complex opening full of rich possibilities. Both sides have a multitude of tactical shots and ideas at their disposal thanks to the different asymmetrical pawn structures and imbalances which occur from the different variations.
It is a perfect opening for players who prefer to understand key strategical and tactical ideas rather than memorize an endless amount of theoretical variations.
Chess Tactics in The Benko Gambit – IM Robert Ris
The Benko Gambit (also known as the Volga Gambit) is a chess opening for Black against 1.d4. It occurs after the moves 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 b5
The opening got its name in honor of the Hungarian-American Grandmaster Pal Benko, who contributed a lot to the theoretical development of the gambit in the 1960s and 1970s.
In 1974, he published the book The Benko Gambit in which he provided many new ideas and suggestions for Black.
The Benko Gambit has stood the test of time and is still widely employed in the 21st century by Grandmasters and club players alike.
Chess Tactics in The Evans Gambit – GM Marian Petrov
The Evan’s Gambit (1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4!) is truly the opening of the attacking chess Gods.
Made famous by Anderssen’s ‘Evergreen Game’ back in 1852, this opening gambit has been a weapon of choice for attackers and chess romantics ever since.

Deep Junior is back – and as strong as ever. This program has been used for over a decade by top players as a secret weapon to find astounding novelties and ideas, where traditional chess engines only see uninspired moves.
The reason is clear: Junior has its own special search techniques and evaluation functions that makes it different from any other chess program. It is enterprising and entertaining, sacrificing material for initiative whenever it sees a chance, providing new ideas in traditional positions against man or machine.
The name Junior is perhaps deceptive. Playing against Junior is not necessarily something for children, as Garry Kasparov discovered in a match in New York. He was held to a 3-3 draw by the Israeli program.
The junior played in its typically dynamic style, greatly surprising the former World Champion with now-famous bishop sacrifice on h2 that forced him to concede a draw. You can look forward to a world class grandmaster when you install the new program on your computer.
This is what DEEP JUNIOR 13.8 offers:
Junior 13.8 YOKOHAMA chess engine (64 bit)
The new Deep Fritz 64-bit program interface (+32 bit program interface)
Premium membership to Playchess.com (6 mounths)
Online access to the world’s largest analysis database „Let’s check“ with over 200 million extensively analyzed positions*
The Dzindzi Indian is named after the grandmaster and two-time US Champion Roman Dzindzichashvil. It is said it looks like a strange cocktail of the Benoni, Dutch, and Nimzo-Indian!
The key to the Dzinzi is that Black gives up the prized dark square bishop to weaken Whites pawn structure. Black’s decision to capture on c3 unbalances the position in a way he couldn’t hope to do otherwise, and for this reason, the Dzindzi-Indian is an effective line to play as Black if you are desperate to win.
A practical advantage from Black’s point of view is that quiet responses by White tend to be at best unchallenging and sometimes much worse than that, so the Dzindzi-Indian can be a successful choice against timid players.
David shows us different game progressions and shows us how to use the Dzindzi to our advantage.
Content: 1 hour and 28 minutes of instruction and analysis in a series of 4 lectures.
Recommended for: Intermediate Players.

These courses will provide you with dozens of useful tools for you to play both in an aggressive or positional manner, depending on what you prefer.
Just a small part of what you’ll get:
VECO – Vol#5 The Reti Opening
The Reti Opening is a positionally interesting opening for White full of hidden bite. Thanks to its flexibility and many ways to play for a win, the Reti Opening has slowly become more and more popular among players of all levels. It occurs after the move 1.Nf3.
Not only has the Reti Opening been frequently played by the best grandmasters of the past such as Anatoly Karpov and Ulf Andersson, but it is also played by many leading grandmasters today – Levon Aronian, Magnus Carlsen, Peter Svidler, Hikaru Nakamura, Vladimir Kramnik and many more.
The opening is called the Reti because it was introduced and regularly played by the Czechoslovakian Grandmaster Richard Réti in the 1920s.
It’s a flank opening, meaning that White does not start off by pushing his central pawns, but goes for a different – a hypermodern – strategy. White does not try to control the center early on with his pawns but spends some time on fianchettoing his light-squared bishop and only then increases his central influence with the moves c2-c4 and sometimes d2-d4.
In many variations, the resulting unbalanced positions offer scope for both sides to play for a win.
Annoying d-Pawn Openings – IM Andrew Martin
With this video, Black can now look forward to facing the Torre Attack, the Trompowski, the Colle System, the Stonewall Attack and the Veresov System. IM Andrew Martin sorts out uncompromising and approved systems for Black against all of these annoying White d-pawn systems.
OUTLINE
Part 1: Trompowski 1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5 Part 2: Torre Attack 1.d4 with 2.Nf3 & Bg5 (against both …e6 and …g6)
Part 3: Stonewall Attack 1.d4 with e3 & f4
Part 4: Colle System 1.d4 with Nf3 & e3 (against each of …d5, …e6 and …g6)
Part 5: London System 1.d4 with Nf3 & Bf4 (against each of ..d5, ..e6 and ..g6)
Part 6: Veresov 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.Bg5
Queen Pawn Opening Mastery (vs g6 setups)
The Polgar Method, as applied to the opening, encourages understanding of the major plans for both sides as opposed to merely memorizing a series of moves. This way, when the game inevitably takes a different course, we still know what to aim for, what to avoid, and what to watch out for.
In this volume, GM Susan Polgar shows how to play the London System against the popular …g6 set-ups. There are two general directions the opening can go, depending on whether Black plays …d5 (Grunfeld style) or …d6 (in the style of the King’s Indian Defense).
This small difference has a considerable effect on the game. With …d5, Black makes it tougher for us to play e4 but also restricts his light-squared Bishop. While …d6 reduces the scope of our ‘London Bishop’ but allows us to claim more space.
While each line has its own tricks and traps to be aware of, the general strategy will be the same: open lines for our pieces (especially the b/c-files and b8-h2 diagonal) and expand on the Queenside.
In Queen Pawn Opening Mastery, GM Susan Polgar reveals the best ways to realize your strategic goals and demonstrates the most instructive games played in this opening too, making the ideas easier to remember.
Understanding, you’ll have extra chances to win your games plus improve your strategic and technical play.

The Reti for White – GM Eugene Perelshteyn
The Reti Opening is a hypermodern chess opening whose traditional or classic method begins with the moves: 1. Nf3 d5, 2. c4 Named after Richard Réti (1889–1929), an untitled Grandmaster from Czechoslovakia, this opening is in the spirit of the hypermodernism movement that Réti championed, with the center being dominated by counter attacks from the flanks.
In this DVD Eugene demonstrates two interesting lines for white in the Reti and then gives us an example of the Reti in action with his best game in the 2008 Spice cup.

Studies in: The Vienna Game – IM David Vigorito, LM Dana Mackenzie, FM Dennis Monokroussos, GM Bryan Smith & IM Valeri Lilov
The Vienna Game is an chess opening that begins with the moves: 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 The original idea behind the Vienna Game was to play a delayed King’s Gambit with f4. In modern play White often plays more quietly (for example by fianchetto his king’s bishop with g3 and Bg2).
Black most often continues with 2…Nf6. The opening can also lead to the Frankenstein-Dracula Variation. This DVD covers several variations of the Vienna game including the Mieses and Frankenstein-Dracula Variation. IM Vigorito goes into all of the reasons why you may not want to play the Vienna game.

The Caro-Kann is an extremely solid opening. It has been a guest at several World Chess Championship Matches throughout history, including the match between Garry Kasparov and Anatoly Karpov in 1987, the match between Vladimir Kramnik and Peter Leko in 2004, and the match between Vishy Anand and Magnus Carlsen in 2013.
While it is true that the Caro Kann is a sound, rock-hard opening, that isn’t to say that it is an opening weapon simply used to make a draw. In fact, it carries lots of hidden bite.
On many occasions, for example, Black outplays White in a better endgame or parries an overambitious attack from White and counters with a winning strike.

Crush the Caro-Kann with the Exchange Variation – GM Eugene Perelshteyn
The Caro-Kann Defense is an extremely solid opening choice for black against 1. e4. While the Advanced Variation involving 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 is certainly the most topical variation for white in the 21st century, it is definitely the most thoroughly studied and well-known line by Caro-Kann players.
However, the Exchange Variation with 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. exd5 is not nearly as popular because many players (incorrectly!) think that this line is very drawish and promises white little chances to fight for an advantage from the opening.
Viewers of the 2.5 hour chess DVD ¨Crush the Caro-Kann with the Exchange Variation¨ will find out that this is simply not the case! The Exchange Variation is a very subtle line for white to fight for a long-term positional advantage based on a rapid development of his two bishops that will make it very difficult for black to in turn develop his bishops to active diagonals.
White has many different methods to play for an advantage in the Exchange Variation and presenter Grandmaster Eugene Perelshteyn does an excellent job of explaining white’s most accurate lines of play.

A Small Part of What You’ll Get:
Advancing Against the French Defense – GM Jesse Kraai
GM Jesse Kraai has produced one of the very best openings courses we’ve seen.
If you have ever struggled against the French Defense (and most of us have) then this is essential viewing.
Instead of loading you up with a million “if Black plays this, you play this” lines, Jesse explains the strategic ideas in the French DefenseAdvance Variation (1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5).
And this transcends the opening…
Jesse explains how to play with a space advantage, how to break down fortresses, and how to deal with attempts to break down your center.
This is a 6½-hour masterclass on playing this structure – and Jesse teaches every point with perfect clarity.
There are 2 main benefits to the French Defense Advanced Variation:
It’s only seen in 15% of games after 1..e6 2.d4 d5 meaning your French-playing opponents won’t be as comfortable facing it.
That space advantage! The e5 pawn pins Black down, forcing them to make timid little one-square moves.
But advantages are only useful if you know what to do with them. And that’s the subject of this course.

Discover…
The easy win against Black’s …c4. Black often finds this move too tempting, closing the position and (seemingly) making life tough for our light-squared bishop. But Jesse shows a sneaky maneuver that cracks the position wide-open… leading to rapid execution of Black’s king!
Perfect piece placement. Take a look at this position (diagram). You might be tempted to ‘develop’ that bishop to e3 or g5. In fact, as GM Kraai points out, it’s perfectly placed already! Lift that rook to the 3rd rank and swing it over to the kingside to terrorize Black. Discover a ton of cool ideas like this to play with greater efficiency.
Why Bobby Fischer struggled against the French. After studying Fischer’s games for years, GM Kraai found a curious feature of Bobby’s play that caused him to struggle against this formation. He also explains how you can avoid this problem!
Get a sure-fire way of taking the game to 1…e6 players AND master a ton of advanced positional ideas with this game-changing course from GM Jesse Kraai on the French Defense Advance Variation for White.
