VECO – Vol#5 The Reti Opening
The Reti Opening is a positionally interesting opening for White full of hidden bite. Thanks to its flexibility and many ways to play for a win, the Reti Opening has slowly become more and more popular among players of all levels. It occurs after the move 1.Nf3.
Not only has the Reti Opening been frequently played by the best grandmasters of the past such as Anatoly Karpov and Ulf Andersson, but it is also played by many leading grandmasters today – Levon Aronian, Magnus Carlsen, Peter Svidler, Hikaru Nakamura, Vladimir Kramnik and many more.
The opening is called the Reti because it was introduced and regularly played by the Czechoslovakian Grandmaster Richard Réti in the 1920s.
It’s a flank opening, meaning that White does not start off by pushing his central pawns, but goes for a different – a hypermodern – strategy. White does not try to control the center early on with his pawns but spends some time on fianchettoing his light-squared bishop and only then increases his central influence with the moves c2-c4 and sometimes d2-d4.
In many variations, the resulting unbalanced positions offer scope for both sides to play for a win.
Annoying d-Pawn Openings – IM Andrew Martin
With this video, Black can now look forward to facing the Torre Attack, the Trompowski, the Colle System, the Stonewall Attack and the Veresov System. IM Andrew Martin sorts out uncompromising and approved systems for Black against all of these annoying White d-pawn systems.

Queen Pawn Opening Mastery (vs g6 setups)
The Polgar Method, as applied to the opening, encourages understanding of the major plans for both sides as opposed to merely memorizing a series of moves. This way, when the game inevitably takes a different course, we still know what to aim for, what to avoid, and what to watch out for.
In this volume, GM Susan Polgar shows how to play the London System against the popular …g6 set-ups. There are two general directions the opening can go, depending on whether Black plays …d5 (Grunfeld style) or …d6 (in the style of the King’s Indian Defense).
This small difference has a considerable effect on the game. With …d5, Black makes it tougher for us to play e4 but also restricts his light-squared Bishop. While …d6 reduces the scope of our ‘London Bishop’ but allows us to claim more space.
While each line has its own tricks and traps to be aware of, the general strategy will be the same: open lines for our pieces (especially the b/c-files and b8-h2 diagonal) and expand on the Queenside.
In Queen Pawn Opening Mastery, GM Susan Polgar reveals the best ways to realize your strategic goals and demonstrates the most instructive games played in this opening too, making the ideas easier to remember.
Understanding, you’ll have extra chances to win your games plus improve your strategic and technical play.

In this DVD Eugene demonstrates two interesting lines for white in the Reti and then gives us an example of the Reti in action with his best game in the 2008 Spice cup.

Studies in: The Vienna Game – IM David Vigorito, LM Dana Mackenzie, FM Dennis Monokroussos, GM Bryan Smith & IM Valeri Lilov
The Vienna Game is an chess opening that begins with the moves: 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 The original idea behind the Vienna Game was to play a delayed King’s Gambit with f4. In modern play White often plays more quietly (for example by fianchetto his king’s bishop with g3 and Bg2).
Black most often continues with 2…Nf6. The opening can also lead to the Frankenstein-Dracula Variation. This DVD covers several variations of the Vienna game including the Mieses and Frankenstein-Dracula Variation. IM Vigorito goes into all of the reasons why you may not want to play the Vienna game.
